La Casa Celebrates Day of the Dead (Daily Illini)
New Trustee Tours Cultural Centers
Trustee Carlos Tortolero visited the campus yesterday, and toured the cultural houses. A graduate from the Chicago campus, Tortolero showed great interest in meeting students and touring the facilities. Besides his passion for art, Tortolero has a great understanding of the needs of diverse populations on campus.
On his world-wind tour, Tortolero first visited the Hillel Foundation facility. He then visited La Casa, Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center, Asian Amerian Cultural Center, and the LGBT Resource Center. In the afternoon he met with student leaders, toured Krannert Art Museum, Spurlock Museum and KCPA. He ate at the PAR dining hall and then met with student sentate officers before heading back to Chicago. Ironically he was scheduled back to our campus the next day for an official board meeting, but Student Affairs was deeply appreciative of his time and consideration in the midst his hectic schedule.
iUnite Story for Daily Illini, submitted by Vice Chancellor Anna Gonzalez
Part of exploring the "Illinois Experience" is to celebrate the rich diversity we have on this campus. Student Affairs strives to be a conduit for sharing the richness and variety of our collective communities. As our global world becomes more accessible, we feel that we, too, must rise to embrace new opportunities and explore our differences and our commonalities at Illinois.
By embracing these differences we can keep our traditions and histories alive. By understanding our commonalities, we can truly become unified as a world class institution.
