Professional Development

The Student Affairs Professional Development Committee is responsible for providing opportunities and resources which promote the development of professional and personal growth for the Student Affairs staff members. The Student Affairs Professional Development Committee is comprised of representatives from various departments within the division.

In an attempt to coordinate various professional development opportunities for staff, we have created a calendar of events. If you are coordinating a professional development event and want to invite other colleagues, we encourage you to add professional development opportunities by filling out this online form.

The committee also hopes to:
• identify and address current topics of interest to student affairs staff members
• facilitate the exchange of information and resources through programs and workshops
• recognize the outstanding accomplishments and exemplary efforts of Student Affairs staff members who contribute to the improvement of the quality of student life at the University of Illinois

Please feel free to provide feedback or suggestions on this section of the website by emailing Chad Wilson.

New Summer Events: PIR Potluck Dialogues

This summer the Program on Intergroup Relations (PIR) will be hosting four dialogue sessions, which will take place during potluck dinners, Wednesday evenings in July. These potlucks are opportunities for facilitators to hone dialogue skills (listening, asking killer questions, etc.) while also exploring some fun issues.

Potluck means bring whatever food you have to share, drinks will be provided. Please RSVP if possible and indicate what you might be bringing so PIR can figure out what's missing.

Schedule and proposed topics:
Arcade Conference Room, 715 S. Wright St. (use the S. Wright St. entrance)
5:30 - 7:00 pm

July 8: Creating Dialogue Spaces: What works? What sucks?
July 15: What is "perspective taking" -- no, really, what is it?
July 22: Teaching? Facilitating? Dimasha?: What is Dialogue?
July 29: Dealing with our Power: What works? Where have we gone wrong?

Facilitators and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible. Besides exploring the above topics, our hope is that these dialogue sessions will contribute to our own development not only as individuals but also as a community of facilitators.

PIR welcomes your feedback: please email Joe Minarik with comments or requests for more information.
