Career Center Receives Federal Grant/Recognition
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has been selected as one of five schools to be named as a 2009-2010 Call to Serve grant university with an award of $3,000 for the first year and the option to renew in the second academic year for $2,000. Greg Hatch and Imants Jaunarajs, from The Career Center, wrote the grant application which was awarded for their proposal to promote federal service at Illinois. The Partnership will host a kickoff meeting in Washington, D.C. on February 9-10, 2009 to celebrate the award and kick-off the campaign.

Campus Rec Receives Funding
Brian Baxter from Campus Recreation, in collaboration with Dr. Ellen Evans in Kinesiology, has received $15,000 towards the development of an undergraduate course (Fall 2009) and paid internship (Spring 2010). "FIT-PALS – Financial Ideas and Tactics for Physical Activity Leadership Strategies" will focus on entrepreneurial issues, financial and capital management and legal issues surrounding the business side of fitness to prepare students with content knowledge related to the real world.

Two Student Affairs Professionals Awarded
Jesse "Tony" Clements, Director of Campus Recreation, received the Outstanding Contribution to Higher Education. This award is reserved for one who has rendered services in programs, policies, or research that has made a national impact; and who has contributed to the broad reach of higher education. In addition to the regional recognition that accompanies this award, the recipient will be considered for the national Outstanding Contribution to Higher Education Award.
Julia Panke Makela, Career Center graduate student, has been selected to receive the 2008 NASPA IV-East Graduate Rising Star Award. This award recognizes a student pursuing a masters or doctoral degree related to student affairs with the intent of pursuing a career in Student Affairs. Criteria includes: Excellence in the classroom; leadership and innovation in the internship/cooperative experience; and potential for significant contributions to the student affairs profession. Both will be honored at the region IV-E Awards banquet on Sunday evening, November 2 in Indianapolis.
