Fred H. Turner Fellow Internship
Three seniors are chosen each year to undertake professional, creative, and challenging assignments as interns for the Office fo the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. These positions offer not only professional interactions for these interns; it allows the to see the integral part that Student Affairs plays to complete the Illinois Experience on campus.
Turner Fellows work on projects and issues related to strategic planning, campus safety, student fees, community-based learning and volunteer service, leadership development, and health and wellness. They coordinate focus sessions to discuss pertinent student issues and have planned and made presentations to the Chancellor’s Cabinet, Student Affairs’ staff, and students. They construct surveys to evaluate programs, summarize and report findings, and present recommendations to committees. The interns provide insights on student concerns and issues and learn the operations inner-workings of a comprehensive Student Affairs organization. Qualifications
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated writing and quantitative skills
• High academic achievement (a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0)
• Available to work 10-15 hours per week
• Junior standing at the time of application
• Expected graduation date for the academic year

History
Since 1978, 85 Turner Fellows have participated in this unique opportunity to work within the administration for Student Affairs. In keeping with the tradition of this position, the Turner Fellows are supported by a private endowment created to honor the late Fred H. Turner, who served as Dean of Students for this campus from 1922-1967. A plaque identifying past and current Turner Fellows is located in the lobby of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
