Get Moving!

“The way I think about it is that fitness changes the building blocks -- the structure and function -- that support numerous cognitive abilities.” – Dr. Arthur Kramer, University of Illinois Beckman Institute*

The plight of American's health has had it's share of bad press. Dr. Kramer has made a living out of researching how all people can benefit from leading a more active lifestyle.

Student Affairs wants to help today's Illinois students help turn those statistics around. We have staff, facilities and programs dedicated to offering active options that can fit into any lifestyle. From intramural sports to martial arts to yoga, whether you want team activities or want to do your own thing. Check out our options and let us know what you need.

Campus Recreation

Campus Recreation has two comprehensive facilities on campus, designed to keep student active, engaged and motivated. They offer intramural sports, mind/body and group fitness classes, swimming, personal training and open rec, a collaborative wellness center...the list keeps going. They offer outdoor adventure trips, and over 75 acres of playing fields. If you haven't been to their newest facility, the ARC (Activities and Recreation Center), then you're missing out on one of the largest recreation facilities in the country. Their other facility, CRCE (Campus Recreation Center- East) is nestled in the heart of campus and offers similar amenties to the east side of campus. They also manage the Freer Pool located in Freer Hall.

Ice Arena

Another facility operated by Campus Rec, the Ice Arena offers open indoor skating during the academic year, as well as hosting skating clubs and leagues. They offer a public skating program for all ages to the campus and surrounding communities. Their concession offers a varietal menu and also has wireless connectivity. The Ice Arena is also home to the national award winning Illini Hockey Team.

*Dr. Kramer has years of research and documentation to support active lifestyles and their impact on aging. You can see him working out at Campus Rec facilities!
