Mind/body experiences
“The concept of total wellness recognizes that our every thought, word, and behavior affects our greater health and well-being. And we, in turn, are affected not only emotionally but also physically and spiritually.” – Greg Anderson, author and founder of the American Wellness Project
Student Affairs recognizes the need to provide health and wellness resources that resound with today's Illinois students. Here's our current lineup:
Oasis Center
Located in the Union's lower level, The Oasis is a collaboration between the Illini Union and McKinley Health Center. The center is staffed with dietitians, athletic trainers and exercise specialists. They offer a Relaxation Room with guided imagery and a resource center with FREE over-the-counter self-care supplies and a wide range of McKinley handouts on health-related topics to students.
McKinley Health Center
McKinley offers primary care, a full-service pharmacy and wellness education for all students. The center operates with a qualified team and offers online appointments and 24-hour Dial-A-Nurse phone consultation.
UI Wellness Center
The UI Wellness Center is meant to provide the campus community with a “place for wellness” and a referral process that broadens the scope of what programs and services can be provided. Student Wellness events, programs and resources are provided in addition to some Wellness opportunities geared toward Faculty and Staff on the U of I Campus.
The Counseling Center
The Counseling Center provides services that are designed to help students reach a balanced Illinois experience, ranging from various counseling services, educational programming initiatives, training programs, outreach and consultation activities, to a wide variety of self-help materials. Their INNER VOICES theater addresses contemporary social and health issues through performances followed by post-performance dialogs. They have special programming for international and diverse groups on campus.
The Culture of Wellness Committee
The Wellness Committee is a representative group that includes administrators, faculty, clinicians, staff members, and students who have an interest or expertise related to students, faculty, and staff’s well being. The long-term goal is to build the capacity for students, faculty, and staff to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become responsible for their own health and well being in their personal and professional lives.
