Sonya Holley currently serves as the Director for Human Resources for Student Affairs at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. With over 10 years of experience in Human Resources in higher education, Sonya currently serves as the college level HR Professional. In this role, she advises the leadership team, department heads, and units on various HR matters as well as lead an effort in developing and implementing human resources strategies to advance Student Affairs HR practices.

Sonya is a results-oriented professional with excellent outreach and presentation skills (she was one of the key presenters for the campus HR Manager training series). She possesses strong communication and problem-solving skills and is very familiar with university employee and labor relations procedures and practices.

Sonya holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois. She is married to Moyo Holley, and they have one daughter named Londyn. She enjoys music, travelling, puzzles, reading cleaning/organizing, light-weight gardening, and exploring new opportunities.
