Mission Statement
Anchored by vision, mission, and values articulated in our 2021-2026 Strategic Plan, the the Inclusive Excellence Steering Committee (SAIESC) was created to guide Student Affairs’ ongoing efforts “to foster a just, inclusive, and fair campus environment where everyone in the Illinois community is treated equitably."

Training and Development Subcommittee
Charge: The Training and Development Subcommittee will have a focus on identifying, creating, and coordinating learning opportunities on topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within Student Affairs.
Action items may include:
- Inviting guest trainers or lecturers to campus
- Identifying topics for training
- Creating training experiences
- Coordinating intradepartmental training opportunities
- Creating collaborative training experiences

Human Resources Subcommittee
Charge: The Human Resources subcommittee will focus on strategies to improve equity, recruitment, retention, and the sense of belonging among diverse staff members within Student Affairs.
Action items may include:
- Pay equity review and recommendations.
- Improved recruitment and interviewing strategies
- Improved onboarding practices
- Improved retention efforts

Strategic Planning Subcommittee
Charge: The strategic planning subcommittee is charged with developing a comprehensive strategy including establishing goals and initiatives that guides Student Affairs at Illinois towards improved diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging outcomes. The plan should be aligned with both campus and student affairs missions, values, and current strategic plans.
Action items may include:
- Peer benchmarking
- Review and revision of relevant statements
- Review and revision of campus and student affairs strategic planning documents

Ad hoc Awards Committee
Charge: This ad hoc group is charged with drafting new awards for the Student Affairs Outstanding Staff and Program Awards. One award should focus and outstanding staff member and the other should focus on an outstanding program.
Action items may include:
- Creating an Outstanding Staff and Program Award
- Creating criteria for the awards selection process

Ad hoc Communications Workgroup
Charge: This ad hoc group is charged with creating a strategy to communication the work of the Student Affairs Inclusive Excellence Committee to the broader division and its stakeholders
Action items may include:
- Creating a website
- Creating an online calendar of training opportunities in SA
- Creating advertising for activities and events

Outstanding Inclusive Excellence Awards
Each year, the Student Affairs Outstanding Staff and Program Awards (OSPA) celebrate and recognize the tremendous efforts of staff from every unit within Student Affairs. There are two awards in the category of outstanding inclusive excellence:
The Outstanding Inclusive Excellence Staff Award: The Outstanding Inclusive Excellence Award recognizes individuals for exceptional advocacy, service, or accomplishment advancing social justice, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging activities in Student Affairs at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Outstanding Inclusive Excellence Program: The Outstanding Inclusive Excellence Program will be presented to a student-centered program which inspires learning related to diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, or belonging in Student Affairs at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
