Frequently Asked Questions

When can I apply?

The application for all Student Leadership Awards & Scholarships is open for 2024-2025. Applications will be available from noon on Monday, February 10 and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 10.

What awards am I eligible for?

The eligibility requirements and award criteria are listed on each individual award or scholarship above.

Can I apply for more than one scholarship?

Yes, you may apply for as many scholarships as you are eligible. All awards and scholarships are listed on the same application, and you will have the option to apply for all of them.

When will I be notified if I won an award?

Award winners will be notified in April 2025.

Who can I contact with questions?

If you have any questions, please email Dr. Lisa Jackson (lisaj3@illinois.edu).

What materials are required to apply?

All awards require that you submit a resume and your contact information to apply. Some awards may require you to submit additional materials, such as a staff nomination and/or written responses to application questions. Read the criteria for each award very carefully to make sure you provide the appropriate documentation.

Do I need to be nominated to apply?

Students will self-nominate for all the awards and scholarships with the exception of the Stanley R. Levy Leadership Scholarship and the Susan Teegarden Morrison Leadership Scholarship, which require a faculty or staff member nomination. If you are eligible for those scholarships, you will list the contact information of the faculty or staff who will fill out the form for you. It is good practice to let that faculty or staff member know you will be listing their information as a nominator, so be sure to do this before filling out the form.

How much money will I be awarded?

Monetary sums are given with each award/scholarship. The amount of each award may vary from one year to the next depending on funding available.

Are there any awards or scholarships for registered student organizations (RSOs)?

Most of the awards and scholarships are for individuals, but Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) may be nominated for the Joseph H. Smith Award

Who creates the awards and scholarships and selects the winners?

Awards and scholarships are determined and selected by the Student Leadership & Scholarships Awards Selection Committee.
